Although my trip to Lisbon wasn’t the trip I expected. It was definitely an experience that will stick with me forever. From the beauty of the architecture to the unique craftsmanship of galleries like Wozen. Lisbon is a city filled activity and life. The streets were always busy and hectic, almost as if the locals like to cause shambles with the police by beeping wherever a siren was in range to be heard. The wave of chaos caused by the roar of beeping car is a sight to see in itself.
Stepping away from the livelihood of the city, I visited many galleries and exhibitions. One notable gallery that I personally enjoyed was Wozen. There were many positive aspects about a gallery like this, the fact that they try to stray away from the traditional essence of what a gallery actually is. Redefining the way we see art, by doing this they created a much more wholesome feel to the gallery. Although it wasn’t a gigantic establishment, this almost homely energy that I felt from the gallery made it something that I would love to visit again. This message was also described in the type of work the gallery produced. The exhibition that I visited was “NO FUTURE WITHOUT MEMORY”. This exhibit showed not only masterful sculptures, but the materials that were used were locally sourced.
The streets are filled with large scale graffiti drawings, that really add character of each individual building. Overall, Lisbon is a trip that I will cherish. I have learnt the culture of these people, what they eat and their livelihoods. The Hub Hostel was by far not a 5 star Hotel, however, that added to the trip and my experience as a whole. I’d love to revisit the city in a few years time, on my own so I could explore new and different areas that I didn’t have time to go to during my 5 day stay there.
These photo's were taking from The Elevador de Santa Justa. The beauty of the city is striking as it almost looks animated with is beautiful visual colours and bright night life.
